WORKSHOP ON ESTABLISHING A COMPREHENSIVE
INDONESIAN TRADE, TOURISM AND INVESTMENT PROMOTION
PROGRAMME
IN THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN
EUROPE
BUDAPEST,
10-11 JUNE 2006

As an
implementation of the President’s Instruction No. 16 of
2005, dated December
29, 2005 to
increase cooperation in the field of trade,tourism and
investment (TTI), ITPC Budapest in cooperation with the
Embassy of the Republic
of Indonesia in Budapest organized a workshop
on establishing a comprehensive Indonesian TTI promotion
programme in the Central and Eastern
Europe. The
workshop was held on 10-11 June, 2006 in Radisson SAS Beke
Hotel, Budapest. The purpose of the
workshop was to coordinate Indonesian promotion programme
in the Central and Eastern
Europe as an input
for NAFED to develop a comprehensive TTI promotion
approach.

The keynote
speaker was the Acting Head of Indonesian National Agency
for Export Development (NAFED), Dr. Rhenald Khasali. The
participants were the representative of economic function
from Indonesian Embassies in Central and Eastern
Europe (Bratislava, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Warsaw, Belgrade) and from
Brussel as a source of information regarding UE
regulations. During the workshop, each participants
presented the economic profile of its respective country
and discussed
the recommendations and strategy for
increasing the comprehensive TTI promotion.

The workshop
was opened by the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy, Mr.
Octavino Alimudin, followed with presentation by Dr.
Rhenald Khasali. Mr. Khasali highlighted 5 points that
should be noticed for international trade, such as
product, consumers, method of payment, promotion and
exhibition. The long term programme is also significant as
to create an image about the Indonesian products to be the
products with
high quality. Mr. Rhenald also emphasized that for
increasing the cooperation in TTI, it should be encouraged
the combined business trips to the core businesses in
Indonesia and tourism, such as the visit to textile
industry in Solo, furniture in Jepara or art handicraft in
Bali.

The workshop
was concluded with several recommendations, as follow:
a.
To optimize
the role of importer for the Indonesian promotion
programme.
b.
To encourage
the cooperation among the Embassies in Central and Eastern
Europe in the field
of trade,
investment and tourism promotion and exchanging the
material for promotion.
c.
To contact
the trade attaché in Brussel for specific information,
especially related to EU regulations.
d.
To establish
business cluster adjusted with the characteristic and
opportunities in the respective countries.
e.
To optimize
the role and function of ITPC Budapest in assisting the
promotion activities in Eastern and Central Europe, such
as organizing Indonesian Solo Exhibitions.
f.
To establish
warehouse in Central and Eatern Europe.
g.
To establish
regular economic meetings, coordinated by ITPC.
6.
In the
second day of the programme, the participants visited the
Indonesian Resources Pavillion, in the Asia Center,
which was inaugurated by, H.E. Sapartini Kuntjorodjakti in
December, 2005.
